SFC – in silico solubility prediction

Wide selectivity, high flow rates and thus faster analyses, and last but not least, sustainable analysis as a result of low solvent consumption make SFC a method of the future.

At Chromicent, we are always thinking one step ahead. A key issue with SFC is the solubility of analytes in supercritical CO₂. In the field of method development, this often requires extensive and time-consuming laboratory work.

Therefore, at Chromicent, we develop in silico predictions for solubility – with the aim of guaranteeing our customers time-efficient, effective and cost-optimised method development.

In the pharmaceutical industry, excipients and active ingredients are usually specific and not or insufficiently recorded in experimental databases. This is where we come in with in silicio modelling of solubility. We already presented our initial results at SFC 2025 in Basel. Our scientist Moritz Effner was awarded the Best Poster Award for this work.

Chromicent’s goal is to develop a widely applicable workflow for immediately assessing whether scCO₂ extraction is feasible or whether alternative strategies should be pursued.
